5 signs your website is losing you customers
Published August 2026
A website doesn’t have to be broken to be losing you business. Often it’s a handful of smaller issues, compounding quietly in the background. Here are five of the most common.
1. It’s slow to load
Every extra second a page takes to load increases the chance a visitor leaves before they’ve seen anything. Slow-loading sites also tend to rank worse in search, so the problem compounds — fewer visitors arrive, and more of the ones who do leave immediately.
2. It doesn’t work properly on mobile
Most traffic to most websites now comes from phones. If text is too small, buttons are hard to tap, or layouts break on smaller screens, you’re making it harder for the majority of your visitors to do business with you.
3. It’s not clear what you want visitors to do
Every page should have an obvious next step — call, enquire, buy, book. If a visitor has to hunt for how to contact you, most won’t bother.
4. The design feels dated
Visitors form an impression of your business within seconds of a page loading. A dated design doesn’t just look worse — it can quietly undermine trust in the business behind it, regardless of how good the actual product or service is.
5. It’s not showing up on Google
If your site isn’t structured with basic SEO in mind — proper page titles, fast load times, mobile responsiveness — it’s simply invisible to most of the people searching for what you offer. A great website that nobody finds isn’t doing its job.
Most of these are fixable without starting from scratch, but they’re much cheaper to get right at the design stage than to patch later.
